'70 Corvette Magazine Ad-Art By Ken Dallison

"70 CORVETTE. WHAT ELSE.
Ken Dallison gives his illustrations a different look. A little looser than most artists and no pretense of being photographic. It brought a nice fresh look to this ad. Ken worked in a different way too. If he didn't like the look of, lets say the wheel area, he would simply cut it out and do it over again and glue it in place. He didn't do it often because he nearly always did it right the first time. Ken is still working today doing both commercial and fine art. I think the copy here was by Dick Wingerson and the art direction by Bob Forlenza or Don Gould.

KEN DALLISON - A NAME FROM THE DISTANT PAST WAY BACK WHEN IN DETROIT. GOOD TO KNOW YOU ARE STILL ALIVE (WE ARE BOTH 1933 VINTAGE) AND WORKING. I STILL TREASURE A COPY OF 'WHEN ZEPPELINS FLEW' THAT YOU GAVE ME. I GAVE UP ON AMERICA AND RETURNED TO EUROPE - TO AMSTERDAM, TO PARIS THEN BACK TO LONDON TO BECOME CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF A GLOBAL AD. AGENCY. NOW ESCAPED AND LIVING IN MONTE CARLO.I WISH YOU WELL. BOB MCLAREN.

JIM BERNARDIN - A NAME FROM THOSE 'GOOD OL' DAYS' IN DETROIT, I POSTED A MESSAGE FOR KEN DALLISON, ANOTHER DISPLACED ENGLISHMAN BUT REMEMBER YOU WELL. AFTER RETURNING TO EUROPE AND WORKING IN AMSTERDAM, PARIS AND LONDON I BECAME WORLDWIDE CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF THE SSC&B LINTAS NETWORK, WHICH INCLUDED MY OLD ALMA MATER CAMPBELL EWALD AT ONE POINT. IT WAS ALL A LONG TIME AGO BUT I HAVE FOND MEMORIES OF JIM HASTINGS (WHO HIRED ME) PETE BOOTH AND BOB FREEMAN (WHO I LATER CAUGHT UP WITH IN SAN FRANCISCO WITH HOWARD GOSSAGE. I ALSO WORKED WITH WARREN WINSTANLEY. I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I HAVE NOT OWNED A CHEVY SINCE I LEFT BUT HAVE RUN A NUMBER OF JAGUARS AND SOME VINTAGE VEHICLES AND CURRENTLY HAVE A MORGAN +8 THAT I BOUGHT 25 YEARS AGO. I KEEP AN EYE ON CHEVY'S THOUGH AND WHO KNOWS. GOOD TO KNOW YOU ARE STILL ALIVE AND KICKIN' .BOB MCLAREN.

McLaren is still remembered by London advertising veterans. Recently a colleague spotted a performing monkey at a London rail station and said: "Look! Bob McLaren!"

I was a budding Industrial Designer....Kens stuff always floated my boat.
His Corvette illustrations were my Wall Art.
His 1970 Corvette Illus. was in my dorm room...some cockroach stole it.
